LYTTLETON TUNNEL FAN-HOUSES

Replacement of roofs on buildings over tunnel entrance

This was a very difficult project involving working in with McConnel Dowell, Upright Scaffolding, NZTA and Lyttleton Engineering among others. A full scaffold deck was built up under the roof, fall-netting fitted and edge protection and debris protection established above the road. We removed several sections of the roof and purlins and temporarily water-proofed the areas several weeks prior to the beginning of the roof replacement work to allow large structural beams to be craned through the roof as part of the EQ strengthening works. We also replaced a significant portion of the roof framing as long-term water ingress had rotted the existing hardwood framing.
